north heath football club

Northumberland Heath FC History:

Many ask why do we have spikes in our logo? the reason behind this is Northumberland Heath in Bexley use to be known as Spike Island. In 1806 the Lord of the Manor, William Wheatley allowed the build of a workhouse that was situated on the estate Sussex Road in Erith. The slang for workhouse in those days was ‘Spike’ therefore Northumberland Heath got the name Spike Island. We wanted to ensure we kept the history of Northumberland Heath with us and to give our badge as much meaning as possible.
